Grant MacEwan's biography of the much admired Pat Burns (described as "short, plump... with the expression of a cherub and the muscle of a stonemason") is a detailed account of this early pioneer who was integral to the settlement of Calgary and the development of the province of Alberta. MacEwan's sources include business documents shared by Burns' nephew, the recollections of business associates, and museum archive research.
